World Heart Day

The 29th of September every year is celebrated as the World Heart Day.

Today, September 29th 2015 is the 15th year of this celebration which in effect means that the first year of celebration was the year 2000.

The World Heart Day is a day set aside specifically to draw people's attention to the issue of their hearts; and to let them know that heart disease and stroke are the World's leading causes of death on an annual basis claiming about 17.3 million lives yearly (those that are reported).

The World Heart Day also offers the Practitioners of health the opportunity to inform, educate and sensitize the public on the dangers of tobacco abuse, unhealthy diet, sedentary life style (physical inactivity) and harmful use of alcohol which are the four main risk factors implicated in the 80% premature death arising from cardiovascular diseases (CVD).

Each year's celebration comes with a different theme and the theme for this year's celebration is #heart #healthy  #environments.

We are all invited to join the World Health Organization, the United Nations and the World Heart Federation to spread the awareness of Cardio Vascular Diseases which are the world's number one killer.

For a heart healthy environment to be real, it MUST start with you.

Clean environment devoid of smoke pollution, heart healthy foods, non use of tobacco in all its forms and moderate consumption of alcohol would surely lead to a healthier heart.

Go check your HEART today!!!
